Next-Generation Radial Pressure Wave Therapy

At Workstrong Physiotherapy we use the Chattanooga Intelect® RPW 2 — the most compact and clinically advanced radial pressure wave system on the market. The device generates pneumatically-driven acoustic pulses that propagate radially through tissue, activating connective tissue from the surface down to deep-seated pathologies and resetting the body's healing response in chronic conditions.

Shockwave is best indicated for resilient chronic conditions that haven't responded to traditional physiotherapy. It triggers increased cell permeability, neovascularisation (new blood vessel formation), reduction of fibrous adhesions and stimulation of collagen production — essentially restarting the healing process in degenerated tissue.

Intelect® RPW 2 — Key Features

0.3–5.0 bar pressure range, 0.1 bar increments
Falcon® handpiece — 1–21 Hz RPW
Comfort Mode — automatic energy ramp-up
Protocols library — visual anatomical guides
5–10 min sessions — 1,500–2,500 shocks
Non-invasive — no surgery, no downtime

Clinically Indicated Conditions

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (Jumper's knee)
  • Tennis elbow / Golfer's elbow
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy and calcific tendinitis
  • Myofascial trigger points
  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (hip bursitis)

Best for stubborn conditions. RPW therapy is most effective for chronic tendon pathologies that haven't improved with rest, physio or injections. Most patients see significant improvement in 3–6 sessions spaced one week apart. Results are often felt immediately after the first treatment.

Shockwave Therapy FAQs

Is shockwave therapy painful? +

Some patients feel mild discomfort during treatment over the most sensitive area. This is generally well tolerated and brief — any discomfort subsides quickly after the session.

How many sessions will I need? +

Most conditions respond within 3–6 sessions, spaced one week apart. Your physiotherapist will advise based on your response to treatment.

What conditions does it treat? +

Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, rotator cuff calcification, tennis elbow, and chronic muscle tightness. See our full conditions list.

Can I exercise after treatment? +

Light activity is generally fine. Your physiotherapist will advise on activity modification for 24–48 hours after each session to optimise healing.
